Pop! Rides Hogwarts Express

All aboard the Hogwarts Express! 1st September marks the day where students return to Hogwarts for their new school year and it has been almost a month since then. This week we bring you the 3 Pop! Rides from Harry Potter! Let us bring you through Platform 9 3/4 to have a look at the Hogwarts Express Pop! Rides.

First up, let's take a look at the first Pop! Rides of our unboxing Sunday & it is none other than Hogwarts Express Engine with Harry Potter that is numbered at 20. The engine is the head of the Hogwarts Express that has a length of 8.5 inches long & the Harry Potter vinyl figure that is included with this engine is approximately 3.5 inches tall.

In our opinion, the details of the Hogwarts Express Engine is pretty impressive where it looks like an actual engine of the Hogwarts Express. The front rear of the ride has the Hogwarts Express tag with the number 5972 & 10A. Apart from this, on both sides of the ride, there are tags which read Hogwarts Castle & the number 5972. There is a small compartment at the back of the ride that allows you to put 1 or in this case, the Harry Potter vinyl figure in the compartment.

It will be awesome if the rides have movable wheels, however, the wheels of the Pop! Rides are not movable. If you take a look at the back of the engine, there is a hook that is visible & if you do not know about it yet, the hook allows you to combine all 3 of the Hogwarts Express (the engine & 2 carriages) which will make it into the complete set of the impressive Hogwarts Express.

Next up of this line of Pop! Rides would be the 2 carriages that carries Ron Weasley & Hermione Granger where Ron is numbered at 21 while Hermione is numbered at 22. Like the Hogwarts Express Engine with Harry Potter, both this carriages comes with its own vinyl figure that has a similar size of 3.5 inches tall. The sizes of both carriages are also 8.5 inches long which is the same length with the engine that carries Harry.

There is a reason it is called carriage & these Pop! Rides have an empty compartment on top of the carriages where 1 compartment is spacious enough to put 2 vinyl figures on top of it. If you are planning to display your Funko Rides or Pop!s, we would recommend you to put a few more characters of the Harry Potter wave on top of this compartments, it will look great for display purpose.

The 2 carriages of Ron & Hermione are similar in details where at the front & back of the ride, there is A1 written on the carriage. Apart from that, at the side of the carriages, the number 99720 is written. The carriages are finished with painted windows on it & both has it own hook & hole where as said before, you are able to combine all 3 sets of this line of Pop! Rides to make it into the Hogwarts Express.

Now for the Pop!s that are included with the Pop! Rides, the vinyl figures in the Hogwarts Express Engine (20), Hogwarts Express Carriage (21) & (22) looks smaller than the normal regular Funko Pop! that are available out there in the market. Harry's clothing is quite detailed with a tug in tees covered with a checkered suit, a belt with pants & his clothing is completed with a pair of shoes. You will be able to turn Harry's head 360 degrees & Harry's broken spectacles that is held together by sellotape can be seen on this vinyl figure.

Apart from that, his signature scar in the shape of a lightning-bolt is visible on his forehead. Like all Harry Potter's fans out there knows, this lightning-bolt scar is the result of a failed murder attempt of Lord Voldemort when he struck a 15-month old Harry with the Killing Curse.

Ron's vinyl figure has his signature hair colour where he looks pretty smart in his sweater, jacket & long pants with shoes. If you take a closer look at the vinyl figure, he is actually holding a chocolate frog in his right hand & a box of chocolate frog in his left hand.

For Hermione, her thick hair stands out which you can instantly recognise her Pop!. Just like in the movies as well as novels, Hermione is carrying books with her as well as sporting the Hogwarts robe.

Fun fact: our trio from the Wizarding World are wearing what they wore the first time they met on the Hogwarts Express in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Now, for our favourites!

STGCC 2016

Last week one of us were lucky enough to attend STGCC (Singapore Toys, Games & Comic Convention) which was held on the 10th & 11th of September 2016 at Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre in Singapore.

So here's a peek at what we managed to get our hands on. :)

Astro Boy, Chun-Li (Pink), & Hot Ryu

Hiddy (Joker), Merlion (White & Sunburst)

Terra Cotta Po, Guan Yu (Glow-in-the-dark), Kuchisake
Unboxed
Out of all the 9 STGCC 2016 Exclusive Funko Pops, the 3 pops that we will be reviewing are the 2 Merlion (White & Sunburst) as well as Hiddy (Joker). Both the Merlion have the same number, 113 & Hiddy's number is 83. All 3 of these pops are under the Pop! Asia category.

Let's take a look at the history of Merlion before we review about these 2 exclusive pops! The Merlion where the original statue stands at 8.6 meters & weighs 70 tonnes is the national icon of Singapore and it is located at Merlion Park in Singapore.

It was first used in the country as their tourism logo where the name Merlion combines "mer" which means sea & "lion". The fish body represents Singapore's origin as a fishing village when it was called Temasek which means "sea town" in Javanese while the lion head represents Singapore's original name Singapura where the definition is "lion city" or "kota singa" in the Malay language.

Now that we have some knowledge about the history of the Merlion, let's take a look at the 2 Merlion Pops that was available during STGCC 2016. 1 of which is the classic white colour & the other is called Sunburst Merlion.

The white version of the Merlion has a similar color with the original Merlion in Singapore where the original Merlion can be seen in Merlion Park which is near to the mouth of Singapore River.

On the other hand, the Sunburst Merlion is a Simply Toys Exclusive Pop! for STGCC 2016. The Sunburst Merlion has a mixture of red, orange, yellow, green & blue colour. In our opinion, the multi coloured Merlion is something similar with the sound & light performance that is held at night in Merlion Park, Singapore where the lights of different colour variations are on the Merlion statue.

Both the Merlion feels heavy, however the weight is approximately 204 gram each which has similar weight with most regular Funko Pop! Only the Sunburst Merlion has the classic Funko Pop! round black eyes but both the White and Sunburst Merlion shows a detailed artwork with the fins of the fish around its fish body including having its own stand that is blueish which looks like a wave of water.

Next up is the Hiddy Funko Pop. Some of you might not know who Hiddy is, so let us share some information about the background of this pop. Hiddy is the proud owner of Secret Base, a toy store located in Japan. Secret Base makes rare & limited art toy collectibles where one of their work includes Hikari MindStyle Funko. The Hiddy Pop! was created to celebrate the Secret Base founder & his tremendous influence on modern sofubi where sofubi (ソフビ) means soft vinyl in Japanese.

There are 3 different designs for the Hiddy series that Funko have unveiled under the Pop! Asia line. The 3 designs so far includes a metallic Hiddy in a Ronald McDonald colour scheme outfit, a Hiddy version with a smirky smile & lastly, a Hiddy version with a Joker colour scheme outfit.

The one we obtained is Joker Hiddy where it weighs around 125 gram, it is pretty light. The name says it all, Hiddy with a Joker outfit where the pop! has the color scheme of Joker with green hair, white skin & a red spectacles (a reference to Joker's signature red smile). The clothes for this Hiddy is a purple jumpsuit which has a H alphabet at the side of his front jumpsuit which stands for Hiddy.

Go Go Power Rangers !!!

Here is our first Unboxing Sunday !!! A Haven for Product Reviews from The Loot Chest.

Our very first product that we are going to unbox & review will bring back some childhood memories for some of us & it is none other than *drum roll* please.......... One of our newest action vinyls in store, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers by The Loyal Subjects.

For those of you who aren't aware, these action vinyls are 3-inches tall & are packaged in a blind box, something similar to the Funko Pop! Mystery Minis. The ones we have in store are from Wave 1 which consists of 11 characters & one master carton contains 16 single boxes.

Here are the list of characters from Wave 1 as well as the ratios of obtaining the characters:

The Heroes:
Red Ranger (2/16)
Blue Ranger (2/16)
Black Ranger (1/24)
Yellow Ranger (2/16)
Pink Ranger (2/16)
White Ranger (1/48)

The Villains:
Lord Zedd (2/16)
Rita Repulsa (2/16)
Goldar (2/16)
Green Ranger *Note that the Sword of Darkness was in Tommy's possession (2/16)

Let's take 2/16 as an example of how the ratios work. If it states that it is 2/16, it means there is a possibility of getting 2 of these characters in a master carton of 16.

Counting the above heroes & villains adds up to 10 characters but we mentioned that there are 11 characters in Wave 1. So who's that mystery figure? We will reveal it towards the end of this blog post for those of you that don't mind ;)

So us with our itchy hands, we unboxed 8 figures in total & first up, we'll introduce the rangers that we have unboxed. The first box that we opened was *drumroll* again please.......... Billy the Blue Ranger! Next up, we managed to get Zack/Black Ranger which has a 1/24 ratio (1st of the 3 rare figures listed on the box).

The third ranger we got was Tommy/Green Ranger and lastly, Jason the Red Ranger was our last ranger box. In our opinion, Jason's vinyl looks the most like him. For the villains, we managed to pull out Lord Zedd & Goldar.

You might be wondering, why are there only 6 when we unboxed 8? That's because we got another Lord Zedd & Tommy/Green Ranger :(

Each figures are fully posable where their hands, body & legs can be adjusted / move. Each figures comes with several weapons apart from Lord Zedd, Rita Repulsa, Goldar & the White Ranger which only have 1 weapon.

There are 2 weapons each for the Red, Blue, Black, Pink & Yellow Rangers where else there are 3 weapons for the Green Ranger. In addition to the special features, the helmet on the rangers are removable & Tommy, Kimberly as well as Trini's ponytails can be attach or detach to your liking.

Tommy with his attachable/detachable ponytail.
Out of all the boxes, these are our personal favourites:

To conclude our very first Unboxing Sunday !!!, as promised, we will reveal the mystery figure that we have not mention.......... Ready? .......... It's the Red Ranger with the dragon shield & dragon dagger which have a whopping 1/96 chance which brings us to 1 in every 6 master carton.

The mystery ranger does look cool when we took a look at how it looks like on google. *Apologies as we don't have the picture of the mystery ranger as we didn't had the mystery ranger luck when we open up the boxes.

To compensate that, here is the link (for those of you who dislike spoilers) if you would like to have a look at how the red ranger with the dragon shield & dragon dagger looks like:
Mystery Ranger in Series 1

The price of each vinyls goes at RM65.00 per figure & if you are interested in getting one of these action vinyls, you can get it at:
